Eren Bali, the visionary behind Carbon Health, is on a mission to improve healthcare access for everyone. Previously, he founded Udemy with the goal of enhancing education for the masses. Both companies have now achieved multi-billion-dollar valuations. Born and raised in a remote corner of Turkey, many might wonder how this young entrepreneur reached such remarkable heights. Bali’s success stems from the authenticity of his own experiences and values.
Friends describe him as someone whose face lights up whenever a problem-solving brainstorming session begins. As the charming co-founder and CEO of Carbon Health, which ranked as the second fastest-growing company on the Inc. 5000 in 2021, Bali combines vision with a unique personal style. Longtime investor and friend Paul Lee notes: “He has a quiet, unconventional confidence. Beneath his calm exterior lies a profound curiosity.”

Like Bali, his fellow mathematician Paul Lee can recognise a colleague’s thought process from miles away. Lee observes: “Mathematics isn’t about explaining something with tons of formulas; it’s about solving problems thoughtfully and logically. That, to me, is Eren’s unique contribution to his approach to founding companies. He is deeply in love with problems themselves. He dissects them and then attacks them with solutions.”
Erdil Karaman, a friend from Middle East Technical University (METU), was among the first to notice Bali’s tendencies. Karaman recalls: “In everything he undertook, he wanted to understand not just what the work was, but the intricacies of how to do it best. We would often find ourselves debating the smallest details, because he always cared about getting it right.”
